Suffolk Coastal Services - what a rubbish service

We pay our council tax so that our rubbish is collected. This makes the community cleaner, reduces disease and generally improves the quality of life for all.

Unfortunately the eco-scum have got hold of this, and decided to put a stop to it, for ideological reasons. They want to force people to live with rats and rotting food for weeks on end. Like the Old Testament peasants, powerless against oppression, we can only ask for God to punish these evil men.

A new twist today. I have a three-piece suite which has to go. I ring Suffolk Coastal and ask for the rubbish collection department. These now call themselves "Suffolk Coastal Services". How grand!

I tell them my story. "That will be £26", they reply. And they'll pick it up some time in the next 7 working days. Perhaps I could leave it in the street, outside my house? Of course in a nice neighbourhood you don't do that sort of thing, but what do they care? They do agree that I can leave it round the back and they'll get it from there.

This is the same, lazy, inadequate collection of bulk goods that the council used to run. The difference is that, although I already pay all their wages, they levy a tax on it. No better service; it just costs more. At a time of recession, it increases the price of everything.

Of course in a council estate the residents would just throw it over the back of the fence and forget about it. How nice of the council to encourage that! And able-bodied people will simply borrow a van from a friend and take it down the dump.

Poor, infirm, elderly people... they have no such choice. The poor must pay, to satisfy the wicked men who levied this.

Lord have mercy on us, and deliver us all from these evil people.

UPDATE: I started this blog to record the heroes and the villains I have encountered, so that I could remember who to use, and who not to. Unfortunately I really no longer have the time to do this, so I am handing it over to another fellow Ipswichian. He prefers to remain anonymous and will post as "shopperman". Good luck!

Roger asked me to add that he then got charged twice for the service; the accounting people put his transaction through twice. Apparently, tho, the accounts people were OK about it and refunded him.

Thanks to Roger for letting me take over posting on this. He isn't going to continue the blog; but someone needs to!
